Maree Davidson is an artist who was born in Brisbane, Australia. She grew up always being intrigued by Australian animals and wildlife. When she was little, she would spend her days outside exploring, and observing the Australian flora and fauna.
This love for nature has translated into her artwork, which often features native Australian animals. Davidson’s work is unique and captures the beauty of Australia’s natural world.
Maree has devoted an entire collection to her favourite Australian animals including emus, quokkas, kangaroos, the Queensland green tree frog and platypuses.
This article explores how Maree discovered her passion for Australian Animals, and how she endeavours to bring awareness to these animals though her art and became an Australian animal artist.
Maree grew up in Ashgrove, Brisbane. She spent her weekends and holidays exploring the local creeks, rivers and bushlands. Maree loved spotting Australian animals felt amazed and inspired by them. “I loved looking at the different animal tracks in the mud, and wondering where they had come from,” she said.
“I remember looking up in a tree and seeing a koala. When it looked at me, I felt something incredible inside. I wanted to capture that beautiful moment, and express it through my art. I know there’s something special about Australian animals. They’re unique, interesting and very funny. I aspire to create all these special qualities and characteristics when I paint.”
“As an Australian animal artist, I feel a strong connection to the land and its animals,” Maree said. “To be able to see a koala, or any Australian Animal in the wild is truly special. I think it’s important that we all do our part to protect these animals. After all, they’re a part of our world too.”
“By bringing awareness to these endangered species, I feel like I’m doing my part to protect them. And that makes me feel fulfilled and purposeful. These animals are an important part of our country’s identity, and are loved by Australians of all ages. I hope that these wonderful animals will be around for many generations to come, so that future generations can enjoy them as well,” said Maree.
“If we can get people excited about animals, then by crikey, it makes it a heck of a lot easier to save them,” ‘Steve Irwin’
“This quote by the late Steve Irwin was memorable for me,” Maree said. “I love how passionate Steve Irwin was about animals and his incredible, vibrant energy. And I also admire how he put his own spin on making animal conservation exciting and fun. Therefore, I think he was an excellent ambassador and wildlife warrior!”
